Sharp announced their latest camera module for smartphones, and it is said to be the world’s thinnest camera module with optical image stabilization.
It features a 12.1 megapixel, 1/3.2-inch CMOS sensor and just 5.4mm thick. Sharp will start shipping samples of the device to manufacturers from the 2nd of December.
The new module’s thin profile has been developed to address the need for embedded cameras in devices to bring superior image quality and camera functionality which includes connectivity to AV equipment and personal computers.
Sharp is expected to release this on January 2012, so we should start seeing it appearing in new smartphones next year.
